As the sport of kings, polo is considered the king of all sports. We no longer have the Kings. Now that we have the governments, we live in a much more structured and inclusive world. This sport belongs to those who have the qualities of a king. Who are not only passionate for playing polo but are also budding entrepreneurs, people from services industry, art etc who are all doing phenomenal job in creating employment bringing in investments from the  foreign worlds, contributing in generating employment and uplifting the overall quality of life for millions. This Maharaja Ranjit Singh tournament has been held to show that polo belongs to everyone who has passion for the sport irrespective of their background. These are the qualities of a king who is for an inclusive world. This tournament aims to build the spirit of sportsmanship in this region and to develop more world class polo teams from here.  Additionally, it is aligned with Chandigarh’s vision of “City that Cares”.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh Polo Tournament 2023 is a unique opportunity to indulge in timeless traditions and discover the mysteries and magic of one of the oldest games in the world. The Maharaja Ranjit Singh Polo tournament has been organized by Chandigarh Polo Club in collaboration with Chandigarh Police Department to create an opportunity for everyone to experience polo; in terms of knowledge; in terms of infrastructure; in terms of training; and in terms of creating opportunities for polo matches where they can showcase their skills.

The Maharaja has a rich history of passion associated with the equestrian sports, and this tournament celebrates his glory and great qualities as a king, which we want to transmit to the next generation as a legacy of kindness and humility. It is in his honour that this tournament has been organized, and Maharaja Ranjit Singh trophy will be awarded to the best three teams by the Hon’ble Administrator and Governor of Punjab and Chandigarh(U.T), Shri Banwari Lal Purohit. During the first day of the tournament, we will also introduce the Baba Bahadur Singh trophy. There will be six dynamic teams from the armed forces and the state police department participating.

The event has been organized in collaboration with the Chandigarh administration and Chandigarh Police Department, as Chandigarh is the common central point for Punjab, Haryana, and the Tricity.

Arena polo and polo in general are happening for the first time in this region at this size and scale. Polo is entering a new era in this region, and the contribution coming from Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh is highly anticipated. This region has a promising potential for players to come in and elevate the sport, and as a venue for polo, it will also help the sport flourish.

According to Dilpreet Sidhu, founder of Chandigarh Polo Club, we are also planning to conduct this semi-official event every year under the guidance of the Hon’ble Governor and the political leaders from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh. I am confident we will be able to accomplish this.”
